Today, we come to the part in the story where Naomi puts in motion a plan to get Ruth to propose to Boaz. Normally, this would not be accepted in a Jewish culture unless the woman was a widow. In that case, the woman had the right to take the initiative to do this. God has been working behind the scenes to get Boaz and Ruth together so they can get married. And while some scholars read into this part of the story some kind of sordid and sexual connotations, nothing could be further from the truth. Context determines everything and in this contest, this is simply a request to get married in a very creative and imaginative way.
