Good day Southside. Would you consider yourself a learner today? Oh, I know we can learn new things every day from the news, social media, etc. But I am talking about do you still read books, especially biblical ones that help you grow in your relationship to Christ? Do you serve the Lord, to stretch yourself and expand yourself using the talents, skills and abilities God has given you? Do you take notes from sermons, Bible studies, or podcasts? Are you still a learner or do you just “go with the flow” or are you just coasting?
Look at Isaiah 26:9, “At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments, The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness” (NASB). These verses aim to develop confidence in God so that those who are righteous in Judah will be willing to wait for and trust in His deliverance in the near future (deliverance has not already happened). To do this, we must know the Word of God. When we do not, when we are not students of the word, then the word of the world becomes ours.
I am grateful that God has entrusted us with this season because it changed us. I am learning—along with my family and friends, my church, and people of God around the world—to pray and believe in a new way. We are learning to dig deeper into God’s Word and apply what we have studied. We are learning to welcome the Holy Spirit as never before.
We are learning to pray with an intensity that our comfortable routines never before required. So, in whatever you are facing today, I encourage you to be willing to learn. Ask God what He wants to reveal to you in a new way. Then, be determined to follow His lead. As we move forward, spiritual activity—both good and evil—is going to increase. We need God’s wisdom to recognize the motives behind the things that are unfolding around us. If we’re going to do the will of God, we’ll need our minds, hearts, and spirits lined up with the direction He wants us to go. Let’s seek the Lord with diligence and learn about His righteousness.
Let’s keep reading God’s Word. Let’s open our hearts and minds to the Holy Spirit’s instruction. Let’s take hold of what we learn and apply it to our lives. When we do that, we will be victorious over every challenge that comes our way. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (NASB)

Scripture To Meditate On: Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (NASB).
Prayer To Pray: “Heavenly Father, forgive me for when I have rejected Your counsel. Give me an understanding heart so I may learn from Your Word and hear the promptings of Your Spirit. Today, I ask for insight so I may know and do Your will. Convict me to be a student of Your Word so that I live it, breathe it and abide by it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
I love you Southside! – Pastor Kelly
