Good morning Southside and I hope you had a great restful and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. Some of you may be a people-pleaser and saying “No” is almost impossible. Others of you, your favorite word when you are asked to do something might be “No!” Do you know people whose default answer to every suggestion is, “No”? To every new idea, their first response is negative. If pressed, they will give you a list of reasons why it is impossible, or at least impractical, or surely better suited to someone else. We sometimes have that attitude toward God. He will put an invitation in front of us, and our immediate response is, “No. I’d rather not. Haven’t You noticed? I’ve made a profession of faith. I’ve even been baptized. I read my Bible. I give money to my church. I’ve got a track record of Kingdom activities. But about this new invitation—sorry, I’ll have to say no.”

As long as you are seeking His will and asking for His direction, God will continue to invite you to step out in faith and say yes to Him—even when you feel the task might be impossible, or at least impractical, or surely better suited to someone else. Psalm 143:8, 10 say, “Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul . . . (10) Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (NASB).

In verse 8, the psalmist uses the word that is translated as “morning.” Literally it says “dawn.” We see the same use in Psalm 27:5 and Psalm 30:6. In the Old Testament, “dawn” was used symbolically to represent resurrection and immortality. So, the dying psalmist requests eternal life from God. In verse 10, this sounds similar to David’s words in Psalm 51:14. The Hebrew word translated as “ground” in Psalm 134:10 is often a reference to the Garden of Eden – where paradise was created and then lost. It is possible that the psalmist, realizing his own sin, is praying that God would establish with him a kind of paradise – where like Adam and Eve, he lives in the fellowship of God unadulterated.

What is your default response to God’s invitations? When was the last time you said, “Yes,” to the Lord, despite not knowing how it might end up? What was the outcome? I know that in our day and time, we are busy bees. We keep going and going with what seems as no rest or break in sight. Yet, Jesus is tenderly and softly calling you to be part of His plan and purpose. You can say “No” and miss the blessings or you can say “Yes” and experience the blessings God gives to you as He uses you to be a blessing to others.

Assignment: Take a moment and use this Time Management Assessment tool to determine if you are managing your time effectively. Here is the link: Time Management Assessment Tool. This is not to make you feel guilty either way, but simply to help you determine where you need to tweak your schedule to be more productive, effective and available to God.

Scripture To Meditate On: Psalm 25:4-5, “Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. (5)  Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation For You I wait all the day” (NASB).

Prayer To Pray: “Heavenly Father, I trust that Your ways are better than mine. All my days are secure in Your hands. When I am tempted to be anxious or afraid, remind me of Your sovereignty. You are my Rock and my Redeemer. I put my trust in You, for You are a faithful God. Help me to better manage my time so that I am available to You to impact others for You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

I love you Southside! – Pastor Kelly
