I love Sundays because we all get to come together to praise and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of my favorite verses in the Bible comes from the disciple John in John 21:25, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written” (NASB). When I read this verse, my imagination kicks in and I wonder what it would have been like if John had attempted to give us more about Jesus.
What this verse tells me is that while here on this earth, Jesus was busy doing His Father’s will – so much so – that today we would not have enough paper or ink to print all of it. The Bible says this in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (NASB). Do you realize what this means? Our wonderful Savior is doing so much all the time today that we always have something more we can learn about from Him.
This tells me that we can’t see all that He is doing here and all around the world. Jesus said this in John 5:17, “My Father is always working, and so am I” (NLT). Jesus is always working in our world. So, let me ask you this question: Are you and I paying attention? No matter how much we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we can never exhaust everything about Him or learn everything about Him. This is why we all should spend our time reading and studying about Jesus and what He said and did here. He is our mentor and we should be intentional to be His mentee. Disciples are committed to learning.
What do you know more about Jesus and His work that you did not know a year ago? 5 years ago? 10 years ago? Take time to look around at how Jesus answers your prayers or how He gives you comfort when you are troubled? Take time to review how certain Bible verses or passages have impacted your life. What did God teach you through these that you could use to each others? There is always more to learn and ways to grow with our Lord. The lie that so many Christian unfortunately believe as truth is they have learned all they can or should. Jesus Christ is not a textbook. He is a person. He is God. He is not a principle we learn, apply and then forget. The goal of our lives is to worship Him by building our relationship to Him every single day of our lives.
Assignment: Take a moment and write down Bible verses or passages that have impacted your life? How did they do that, what did you learn, and how are you now mirroring the character of Jesus in your because of them? Take a moment to write down answers to prayers. What does this show you about how our Lord works?
Scripture To Meditate On: Psalm 40:5, "O Lord my God, You have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all Your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them” (NLT).
Prayer To Pray: “Dear Lord, Your work in my life and around the world is too much to count. I am so sorry that I do not thank You enough for all You do for me and others. Help me to learn the lessons You want me to learn so that I can be the disciples You want. Help me to see where You are working so that I can join You and bring You glory. I love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!’
